When talking about his heritage, Dan Christian starts off by stating "I'm an Aboriginal man."
Selection in the Australian Twenty20 squad to face the West Indies has made 26-year-old Christian the second player of acknowledged indigenous heritage to represent the national side in modern times.
But the tag sits far more comfortably on Christian's shoulders than it did on those of his forebear Jason Gillespie, who admitted to not being entirely comfortable with the role of indigenous ambassador.
Unlike Gillespie, Christian grew up well aware of his family links to the Wiradjuri tribe in south central New South Wales.
"I'm an Aboriginal man from the Wiradjuri tribe in NSW, that's all through my dad's side of the family, and they're all born and bred from down there," he said on Wednesday
