The Conference will be a one day event held on Saturday 14 November 9.30am – 5.00pm at the Bangarra Dance Theatre, Pier 4/5 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay, Sydney. Click here for map.
The Conference will focus on key contemporary themes in reconciliation and explore the future of reconciliation in NSW. It will be an informative day where people can learn from the leaders of reconciliation.
Keynote Speakers include:
Prof Larissa Behrendt (Professor of Law and Director of Research Jumbunna Indigenous School of Learning at University of Technology)
Topic: Setting the scene for the conference and providing analysis and commentary on the state of Indigenous Affairs and reconciliation.
Jason Glanville (Chief Executive, of the National Indigenous Centre for Excellence and steering committee member for the new National Indigenous Representative body).
Topic: An exploration of the new national Indigenous representative body model.
Gregory Andrews (Chief Executive, Indigenous Community Volunteers - ICV)
Topic: Reconciliation in Action, Achieving Reconciliation in Communities through the work of Indigenous Community Volunteers.
Simon Sheihk (National Director, Get –Up!)
Topic: Getting to know Get- Up! An overview and understanding of the highly successful grassroots organisation and an exploration of the current campaigns Get- Up is undertaking relating to the reconciliation movement and Indigenous Affairs.
Priscilla Brice-Weller (Campaigns Manager, ANTaR)
Topic: Digital Media: Building the peoples movement online for Reconciliation. Priscilla will share her experience as Campaign Manager for ANTaR including the successful Respect campaign aimed to combat racism and encourage reconciliation.
Samson and Delilah will be Australia's official entry for the Academy Awards. The NSW Reconciliation Council will hold a special screening of the film on Saturday 14th November as the official side event to the NSW Reconciliation Conference 2009. Writer and Director Warwick Thornton and Producer Kath Shelper will be at the event for a post-screening Question & Answer session. Conference delegates will receive priority entry and seating for the exclusive event.
