| Dear Reconciliationist, |
| |
|
It's hard to believe that another month has pased and Reconciliation Week is now firmly on the horizon. NSWRC has been flat out from supporting small community projects to organising a big completely new kind of event, from honouring the past to inspiring for the future. Reconciliation is about bringing people together as one community and NSWRC is proud to be able to help facilitate events and projects that do just that.

This month we fill you in on the outcome of the small grants program, great news for the Richmond-Hill memorial, our major event for Reconciliation Week 2010, as well as ways to find out more about Welcome to/Acknowledgement of Country and Generation One.

| Richmond-Hill Memorial is Underway |
| |
|
Just like the polly's we turned the soil and it began. On Friday 26 March a ceremony was held to mark the commencement of a memorial garden to honour and commemorate the ‘Battle of Richmond Hill’ that occurred in 1795, where Darug people fought bravely to defend their land from invasion.
The memorial will create a visible, public and permanent place to honour the Darug people killed in defending their land and increase knowledge in the community about the true history of the area.
This Project is the result of a great deal of hard work and commitment shown by LRG Projects for Reconciliation and it's members. Well done.

Welcome to/Acknowledgement of Country
The much publicised comments by Federal Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott, sparked an interesting debate about the possibility of an Australian custom.
Reconciliation Australia have produced an FAQ on Welcome to and Acknowledgement of Country.
