Main Speaker Mick Gooda at Mt Druitt
The Apology in 2008, delivered by the, then Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, delivered a promise we hoped would bring equity to Australian society. In 2011 Mt Druitt & District Reconciliation in partnership with Holy Family invited members of the community to recall the historic National Apology to the Stolen Generations at the Federal Parliament.
At Mt Druitt in 2011, fifty or more people attended to commemorate the ‘Apology’ and talk about the progress to date.
We noted there has been increasing number of private companies developing mentoring programs for Aboriginal employees under the umbrella of Reconciliation Action Plans; more wealthy private schools are providing scholarships for Aboriginal students, most of the local councils in Western Sydney have moved towards an employment strategy to increase the employment possibilities for Aboriginal people, as well as respect for culture in development applications and most have some form of acknowledgement of NAIDOC and Sorry Day. BUT there is still a long way to go.
We invite you and your friends and colleagues to come together On Monday 13 February 2012 at 5:15pm in the Coral Mclean Courtyard, at Holy Family Centre, Emert Parade, Emerton for tucker and a Yarn Up to review the last year and decide what we what to achieve by 2013.
Please RSVP by Thursday 9th February 2012
