"Bridge over Troubled Water 2000" - Kevin Butler & Val Law

Reconciliation: The Road Ahead

Reconciliation Week is held every year from 27th May until 3rd June. The week marks two important dates – the anniversary of the 1967 referendum (27th May 1967) and the anniversary of the Mabo land rights decision (3rd June 1992).

To commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the Bridge Walk for Reconciliation, the NSWRC has reproduced, with permission from the artists, a special Reconciliation Week poster. In 2000,over 300 000 people walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge in support of Indigenous Australians and the reconciliation movement. This deluge of people crossed the Bridge in an unprecedented show of solidarity.

The 2010 theme is Reconciliation: The Road Ahead. The theme is about the journey that we are still taking to achieve Reconciliation.  We are by no means there yet; however we can look at what we have achieved so far such as the Bridge Walk for Reconciliation, the Apology and think about what we need to do to get to a truly united and reconciled nation.

This Reconciliation Week we ask you to think about your hopes and vision for  Reconciled Australia.

Copies of our poster have been posted out to LRG's across the country. To download a copy click below.
