There's a big catch: law change nets Aboriginal fishers

Eva Leon, an elderly Aboriginal woman who rows across a lake in Forster each week to catch a feed, will be branded a criminal by changes before the NSW Government.

She is one of hundreds of fishers up and down the state's coast who will be penalised under laws aimed at blackmarket fishing.

Under its own principles, the NSW Government recognises indigenous people as the first custodians of Australia's marine environments and has promised to protect customary fishing rights. Click here for article.
