Festival of culture on Taree riverbank

Manning River Times

The 2012 Saltwater Freshwater Festival is ready to rock the riverfront at Queen Elizabeth Park, Taree on Australia Day.

Three performance areas - amazing music on the main stage, contemporary Aboriginal dance on the Dancestry ground and the Unearthed stage for local performers - will provide entertainment for all ages.

The festival kicks off at 11am, with acts such as Microwave Jenny, The Black Turtles and The Stiff Gins on the main stage as well as workshops being conducted throughout the site offering people the chance to experience cultural practices such as weaving, didge, design and dance.

"Now more than ever, Australians appreciate the unique place Aboriginal culture has in our national identity and this festival celebrates that. There's something for the whole family to do so bring a picnic lunch and immerse yourself in our culture," says Alison Page, executive officer of Saltwater Freshwater Arts Alliance.
