Sydney art exhibition to support Aboriginal students

An Indigenous college in Sydney is helping local Aboriginal medical students succeed at university. Shalom Gamarada is hosting an art exhibition due to open this weekend to raise money for the undergraduates. It aims to reduce the drop-out rate of Indigenous students by providing financial assistance and accommodation.

Dubbo student Jenna Owen says she would not have been able to study optometry without a scholarship. "The financial burden that university can place on a family, particularly when you have to move so far away, it's a really daunting task," she said.

"The money from the scholarship allowed me to come in the first place. "But also living in Shalom College I've met other students who were in the same sort of situation as I am, so that helps as well."
