Dear Reconciliationist,

We'd just like to point out that it's the 10th month of the year! Silly season is just around the corner and there's already been some celebrating going on. The Deadly's were held once again at the Sydney Opera House in front of a capacity crowd. The winners on the night included Naomi Wenitong (The Last Kinection), Archie Roach, Timana Tahu, Message Stick (ABC TV), Bran Nue Dae, and someone in the Reconciliation Network - but more on that to come.

The 40th Koori Knockout also took place in Woy woy recently with Walgett Aboriginal Connection getting up 46-26 against Mindaribba from the lower Hunter region. 68 teams competed, making this years Knockout one of the biggest in the events history.

In this issue, more info on NSWRC's AGM and surrounding events, we let you know about Reconciliation in Parliament, amendments to the NSW Constitution, and much more. Get involved!

NSWRC Annual General Meeting

We'd like to remind you one final time that our AGM is one the first weekend of November at Tranby Aboriginal College in Glebe. If you or someone you know would like to stand for any board position, return the nomination form  to us by 5pm Friday October 15th.

In addition to all the meeting stuff, we'll also be holding two events over the weekend. On Friday the 5th we'll be launching a brand new publication You + Me = Us. On Saturday afternoon, after the AGM, we'll be getting on a bus and heading out to Richmond Hill for a cultural excursion to the Richmond Hill memorial for the brave Darug people who fought against invasion in 1795. Click below to register your attendance.

New
England Indigenous Rep Glen Crump

Deadly Awards

The NSW Reconciliation Council would like to Congratulate Glen Crump, (Indigenous New England Regional Representative), on winning the Community Broadcaster of the Year award at the Deadlys.

Glen Crump is a proud Gomori man from Moree in regional NSW. He got his start in radio in 2001 as a part of Youth Week and hasn't looked back since. He has been the host of 2VM's Mission Beat for over eight years and through his radio work, has been an avid promoter of community activities and reconciliation.

Away from the studio, Glen also has a long list of community achievements, including as a founding member of the NSW Youth Advisory Council (2000-2004) and the Moree Youth Council, a former NSW Representative on the Aboriginal Justice Advisory council (1998 - 2000), and was twice voted Moree Young Australian of the Year (1999 - 2006). He continues to work tirelessly in his local area to advance reconciliation, establishing the Moree Reconciliation Group. He draws inspiration from his local Elders, and aspires to one day have an Aboriginal radio station on a commercial network, broadcast nationally.

The Deadlys were held at the Sydney Opera House and attended by a capacity crowd.  The Deadlys have been running for 16 years and is recognised as the largest national Indigenous awards ceremony for Music, Sport, Entertainment and Community grass roots leaders.

We would also like to acknowledge and congratulate all other 2010 Deadly award winners.
