| Dear Reconciliationist, |
| |
|
We hope you are defrosting as we turn the corner to warmer weather. With winter hibernation behind us, the NSWRC is planning our upcoming Annual General Meeting, writing our Annual Report, organising two events which will be held in conjunction with the AGM, getting ready to roll out the second year of the Schools Reconciliation Challenge, begining to think about Rec Week next year, and also reminding ourselves to breathe.
|
|
Speaking of Boards, Changes, and bad segues; Southern Regional Rep and Dharawal Traditional owner Roy 'Dootch' Kennedy is serving as an interim Co-Chair until the AGM. We would also like to welcome Michael Moore as our new Riverina/Murray Indigenous Representative. Michael is Wamba Wamba man working in the Deniliquin community St. Vincent de Paul.
|
In past additions we've mentioned our publication You + Me = Us. We'll be launching it on the evening of Friday the 5th of November at Gleebooks in Glebe. It will be entry by donation, however you'll be able to reserve your place through Gleebooks. More information will be coming soon!

Dootch at NSWRC AGM 2009
|
|
| NSWRC Annual General Meeting |
| |
|
It's officially official, the NSWRC AGM will be taking place on Saturday the 6th of November. We'll be having it here at Tranby Aboriginal College in Glebe. The AGM will be in the morning, we've got a little something planned for Saturday afternoon. Then the new Board will have its first meeting on the Sunday.
Technically speaking all positions are vacant, and some representatives have indicated they are moving on. So long story short, if you or someone you know are interested in being involved, get a nomination in. They officially open on September 27th and close October 15, allowing (for the first time) postal votes 3 weeks to be sent in. Click below for forms.

Knockout turns 40 |
| |
|
The Annual NSW Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout is one of the biggest social, cultural and sporting event on the Aboriginal Calendar in NSW. It's a celebration of Aboriginal survival and a recognition of Aboriginal culture, independence and belief.
The 40th Anniversary Knockout will take place in Woy Woy on Darkinjung land. The Knockout Competition looks bigger and better this year, with the four day event including youth and women's competitions. Athletes and their legions of supporters will travel from across NSW, representing small and large Aboriginal communities and it is expected that up to sixty teams will be entered this year to celebrate 40 continuous years of the Knockout Competition. It is estimated that between 10, 000 and 15,000 spectators will be in attendance over the October 2010 long weekend.

Deadly Vibrations 30/9/10
'Deadly Vibrations' will be a day of activities and performances with the aim of engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, high school students and their families, with the hope of building a strong relationship between local communities and the UNSW campus.
It is also a chance to check out some great Aboriginal artists including Stiff Gins, Last Kinection, Radical Son, and Street Warriors.

NSW Constitutional Amendments
The NSW Constitution now recognises Aboriginal people as the first inhabitants of the State. The Government consulted several advocates for Aboriginal people on the wording of the amendment, which includes recognition that the Indigenous people have made, and continue to make, a unique contribution to New South Wales.
